Become an Intern
Since 2012, wilderness stewardship interns have been a key part of the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation family.
Each summer, ABWF hires several interns to assist the USFS and ABWF on trail projects, to support the Trail Ambassadors program, and conduct community education on wilderness ethics. These paid internships provide valuable real world experience in trail building, leadership skills, and community engagement as well opportunities to experience The AB as few do.
2025 Internships
Applications for the 2025 summer season typically open in late 2024. To learn more and see if you’d be a good fit, check out the past job descriptions here.
If you are serious about spending a season one of America’s Wilderness crown jewels, please drop us a line with a letter of interest and we will keep it on file for upcoming opportunities.
Why We Love Interning With ABWF
-
“Reading deeper into the background of the foundation and what it stands for made my heart flutter with excitement… Going into the experience I had little to no experience working on trails and I had never been out West. That didn’t stop the ABWF from seeing my potential.”
— Breanna Adamson, 2024 Gardiner Ranger District Intern
-
“I mean it when I say that I have never felt as strong a sense of belonging as with not only the other ABWF folks, but the other groups as well… I was amazed at how much I felt I could truly express myself in this group of people. It’s inspiring and has only reinforced my dream of working in this field for a long time yet.”
— Reilly Stack, 2024 Yellowstone Ranger District Intern
-
“The Beartooth mountains fill my soul and provide for me so I would love to do the same for them. This is why I have found myself with ABWF to begin learning how to take care of the places I love.”
— Michael Winn, 2024 ABWF Intern
