About Us
Our Mission
The Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation exists to support stewardship of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and foster appreciation of all wild lands. We do this through direct stewardship of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, through wilderness education for wilderness users and surrounding communities, and through programming that helps foster lifelong appreciation for all this magnificent landscape has to offer.
HOw it started
The Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness Foundation was formally founded in 2008, thirty years after the establishment of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness itself.
Our founding goals are as follows, and we continue to operate with these goals in mind today.
To promote stewardship of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area and adjacent wildlands;
To foster community and individual support for wilderness values, programs, and projects;
To promote volunteer participation in wilderness projects and wildland programs/activities;
To educate and inspire people to understand wilderness and wildland values, characteristics, critical issues, and ecology
To foster long-term relationships with individuals, communities, tribes, colleges and universities, organizations, businesses, and other agencies to achieve these goals.
Our Programs
Our programs include a wide variety of single-day stewardship events from weed pulling to trailhead cleanups, multi-day wilderness trips that bring volunteer power to remote trail maintenance projects, town-based community events that celebrate the joy of wilderness through skill-building and storytelling, and much, much more.
We’re proud to provide a way for people to work together for the common good, transforming shared wilderness beliefs and hopes into action.
Over the last decade, thousands of volunteers have supplied countless hours of work with our dedicated team, from working on trail projects, weed pulls and citizen science projects to providing educational wilderness wisdom programs. We’re determined to do even more, with your help.
